The Impact of Jesus’ Resurrection

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 NIV

Do you believe it? I do and it has had a great impact on the way I see life and death! But it took a while until I fully understood the meaning of Jesus’ resurrection. That’s why I want to share some testimonies with you. My prayer is that they will open your eyes to what you have freely received and will encourage you to hold your ground and step out in faith.

Jesus’ resurrection comes with a great promise!

First of all, I want to speak about the full meaning of Jesus’ resurrection though.

The Meaning of Jesus’ Resurrection

Death is a dreadful thing when you look at it from a mortal perspective: You leave your body and all your loved ones behind and go to a place no one knows. All you worked for and all you earned will stay behind and nothing can protect you from what is to come.

Well, as Christians we know what happens after death: You go either to heaven or to hell.

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,  Hebrews 9:27 ESV

so we know that the only time for atonement is while we live. Furthermore, there is no way of hiding our sins before God, our Judge,

For your ways are in full view of the Lord,
and he examines all your paths. Proverbs 5:21 NIV

Our only salvation is The Mercy of God and that We Are Forgiven Through the Blood of Christ! The Lord himself paid for our transgressions by dying on the cross. He didn’t stay dead though and Jesus’ resurrection comes with a promise that exceeds forgiveness, because

Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. 1 Corinthians 6:14 NASB

Just like He did it with his Son Jesus, God will also raise us up when we die to give us eternal life.

What It Means To Be Raised Up By God

When you believe in Christ Jesus, you are no longer under the law of death. Paul describes this as,

Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. Galatians 4:7 NLT

God is the Father of all who believe in and follow him. He loves them more than any mother could love her child and promises that

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10 NASB

The Lord called you “to his eternal glory”. Thus, all God’s children will forever be in the presence of God after they die. Death is just the door to our home in heaven and as Paul wrote,

I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live. Philippians 1:23-24 NLT

Therefore, take Jesus’ advice to heart and

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32 NASB

How Jesus’ Resurrection Impacted My Life

When you are younger (and not a Christian), you usually don’t think about death as much. You just live your life until you are confronted with it. This attitude is very dangerous though, because most people don’t know and/or don’t care about what comes after death! They are running towards hell without realizing it.

Only hearing the true gospel opened my eyes for the threat of dying. And only the full gospel which led to me Being Born Again was able to prevent me from growing desperate. It taught me Why We Should Fear God and to stop fearing men,

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 ESV

Now, I’m in a situation, where I agree with Paul’s declaration above. I long to be with Jesus but I also want to serve him here. And when I think about death or being killed, I am not afraid anymore. All that earthly enemies can do to me is bring me home to my Father. And this doesn’t frighten me anymore because I know that

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2 NKJV

How Jesus’ Resurrection Impacted Christians in Peru

As mentioned above, knowing about the promise in Jesus’ resurrection while being a child of God takes away all fear of men. This became evident in a Peruvian Congregation in 1991.

I’d like to quote their testimony from the book “Jesus Freaks: Martyrs. Stories of those who stood for Jesus: the ultimate Jesus Freaks” by dc Talk and The Voice of the Martyrs. It is found on page 297. (I am not making any money with this Amazon link. Its only purpose is to show you which book I mean. The link to The Voice of the Martyrs however, I highly recommend checking out. They are an awesome organization, fighting for Christians worldwide.)

Terrorists had killed their pastor the night before. His body was on the floor under a blanket with some candles around it. Terrorists had also burned the church and seventeen houses — all belonging to Christians.

The people had no more church, no more pastor, no more houses. Yet, they continued to gather together fearlessly, about thirty of them. They stood in the muddy street to have their song service.
Jesus Freaks: Martyrs, page 297

Those brothers and sisters in faith knew that God is greater than the fiercest terrorists. They knew that death isn’t worth being afraid of when you have the Lord Most High on your side. Jesus’ resurrection gave them the confidence to stand unafraid against all worldly enemies.

How You Can Become That Fearless

When you have given your life to Jesus and follow in his steps, you can experience the same fearlessness as in the testimonies above! Just remind yourself of the promise that death will only bring you home into the arms of your Father. And keep in mind that

The fear of man brings a snare,
But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25 NKJV

However, if you’re still living in the world, I must warn you about The Perfection of God’s Justice,

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Romans 8:6-7 ESV

If, on the other hand, you are truly following Jesus but are still fearful, try to loudly proclaim the word of God. Doing this will help you to break free from your doubts, for your tongue is very powerful. In fact,

From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.

The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:20-21 NIV

Thus, you can reap both life and death depending on what you say. Proclaiming God’s truth will always lead to life though. And please remember that

Our God is a God who saves;
from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death. Psalm 68:20 NIV
